How much prize money did Jannik Sinner get for winning men's singles at US Open 2024?

By Rishab VM

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner capped off a spectacular run at the US Open 2024, defeating Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the men's singles final.

The much-anticipated showdown, held in front of a star-studded crowd, saw Sinner overpower the American, dashing hopes of a local Grand Slam champion. It has been over two decades since an American man has won a Grand Slam title, but Sinner's solid performance ensured that Fritz's dream would be postponed.

How much money has Jannik Sinner won after US Open Triumph?

Sinner's victory not only secured his first-ever US Open title but also added a significant boost to his 2024 earnings. For his dominant display in straight sets, the Italian took home a hefty prize of $3.6 million (approx. INR 30.23 crore).

This win propelled his total prize money for the season to $10.6 million, making him the highest-earning player in tennis this year. On the other hand, runner-up Taylor Fritz earned $1.8 million for his efforts, bringing his 2024 prize money earnings to $4.4 million.

Breaking Through Financial Milestones in 2024

Sinner's US Open triumph marked a major financial breakthrough. His winnings at Flushing Meadows not only surpassed his previous career-high earnings, but they also helped set a new record for prize money in tennis in 2024. Interestingly, his US Open prize was more than what the 2024 Wimbledon champions earned, where each took home £2.7 million (over $3.4 million). This reflects a nearly 15% increase in prize money from the previous year, which shows the growing financial stakes in tennis.
Overcoming Controversy on His Way to Victory

While Sinner's on-court achievements have been remarkable, his path to the US Open victory wasn't without controversy. Earlier in 2024, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) revealed that Sinner had twice tested positive for low levels of a banned anabolic steroid in March. However, after a thorough investigation, it was determined that Sinner bore "no fault or negligence," and he was not handed a suspension. Despite the media scrutiny, Sinner remained focused and demonstrated why he is the World No. 1.
