'I Just Wanna Quit Tennis': Aryna Sabalenka Left Devastated After Roland Garros Meltdown
Aryna Sabalenka's wait for a maiden French Open title will continue after the world No. 1 suffered one of the most dramatic collapses of her Grand Slam career against Diana Shnaider in the Roland Garros quarter-finals.
Sabalenka appeared firmly in control on Court Philippe-Chatrier and was just two games away from the semi-finals before everything unravelled.

The Belarusian eventually fell 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 to Shnaider, losing the final 10 games of the match in a stunning turnaround that left her visibly devastated.
Aryna Sabalenka Squanders Winning Position
For much of the contest, Sabalenka looked on course to continue her charge towards a first French Open crown.
The three-time Grand Slam champion claimed the opening set comfortably and then moved within touching distance of victory after taking a 5-3 lead in the second.
With several top contenders already eliminated from the women's draw, the tournament looked perfectly positioned for Sabalenka to finally conquer Roland Garros.
Instead, Shnaider mounted a remarkable comeback.
The Russian reeled off four consecutive games to snatch the second set before completely dominating the decider, handing Sabalenka a rare 6-0 defeat in a Grand Slam quarter-final.
Aryna Sabalenka after French Open: "I Just Wanna Quit Tennis Right Now"
The loss clearly hit Sabalenka hard.
Known for her honesty and emotional transparency, the world No. 1 did not attempt to hide her frustration during her post-match press conference.
"No thoughts, no emotions, just wanna quit tennis right now, but we'll see," Sabalenka admitted.
"We'll see in three days, hopefully I'll get back on track mentally."
While the comments were made in the immediate aftermath of a painful defeat, they reflected the magnitude of the opportunity that slipped away in Paris.
Sabalenka reached the French Open final in 2025 before losing to Coco Gauff and entered this year's tournament as one of the overwhelming favourites after several rivals exited early.
A Mental Collapse More Than a Tennis One
Sabalenka acknowledged that failing to close out the second set ultimately proved decisive.
After missing her chance to serve out the match, she struggled to recover mentally as Shnaider gained momentum.
"I felt like I had very decent opportunities in the second set," Sabalenka said.
"I screwed up and then she stepped in and she played great, and I feel like mentally I couldn't really recover after the second set."
"I think that was the biggest mistake from me."
The third set quickly became one-way traffic as Sabalenka's frustration grew and Shnaider's confidence soared.
"A Deep, Dark Hole"
Perhaps the most telling part of Sabalenka's assessment was her description of what happened mentally during the final stretch of the match.
The Belarusian admitted she could not remember the last time she lost 10 consecutive games in a professional match.
"I don't know when was the last time that happened to me, that I lose 10 games in a row," she said.
"I guess mentally I got into a deep, deep dark hole there, and couldn't get back mentally on track."
For a player who has built her career on resilience and emotional growth, the admission highlighted just how difficult the defeat was to process.
Diana Shnaider's Career-Defining Victory
While much of the focus will be on Sabalenka's collapse, credit must also go to Diana Shnaider.
The Russian showed remarkable composure after trailing for much of the match and seized control when the opportunity arrived.
Her reward is a maiden Grand Slam semi-final appearance and a genuine chance to compete for her first major title.
New Champion Guaranteed in Paris
Sabalenka's exit continues a tournament filled with surprises and major upsets.
With defending champion Coco Gauff already eliminated and several other top seeds falling earlier in the event, Roland Garros 2026 is now guaranteed to crown a first-time French Open women's champion.
For Sabalenka, the defeat will sting for some time.
After arriving in Paris as one of the favourites and finding herself in a wide-open draw, the opportunity was there for the taking. Instead, a match she appeared destined to win ended with one of the most painful collapses of her career.
