Iga Swiatek Parts Ways with Coach Wim Fissette Following Shock Miami Open Exit

Iga Swiatek has confirmed she has parted ways with coach Wim Fissette following her shock early exit from the ongoing Miami Open.

Swiatek was beaten in three sets by compatriot Magda Linette, bringing an end to her 73-match win streak in her opening match in WTA tournaments.

The six-time grand slam winner welcomed Fissette onto her team back in October 2024, and he helped her claim a first Wimbledon title in July of last year.

Swiatek added two more WTA Tour titles – at Seoul and Cincinnati – while working with the Belgian last year, but she has endured a difficult start to the 2026 season.

The 24-year-old has failed to advance past the quarter-finals in any of the four tournaments she has featured in, forcing her to make a change behind the scenes.

"Miami was challenging for me. I feel disappointment, bitterness and responsibility for my performance on the court, of course," Swiatek said on Instagram on Monday.

"I've also learned a lot of important lessons, and I think that's very human.

"That being said, after many months of working together with my coach, Wim Fissette, I've decided to take a different path."

Swiatek added in her statement that the rest of her team would remain unchanged.

"I know there are many questions, but I'll let you know what’s next at the right time," Swiatek said.

"I'm taking a moment to take care of myself, process this experience, and prepare for a new chapter."

Fissette has worked with a long list of top players, which includes Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka.
