Bangalore, June 13: Protests erupted in Brazil hours before the FIFA World Cup could kick off. Anti-World Cup demonstrators chanted slogans, during a protest demanding better public services and protesting the money spent on the World Cup soccer tournament, in downtown Rio de Janeiro just hours before the first World Cup match was to be played in Sao Paulo.

Meanwhile, Germany's Dustin Brown defeated Spain's Rafael Nadal during the Gerry Weber Open tennis tournament in Halle, Germany. Brown won the match with 6-4 and 6-1.
