Jiel Teichmann, former World No. 21 remains one of the most prominent contenders at the ongoing L&T Mumbai Open 2025 WTA 125, hosted at the iconic CCI Club in Mumbai.
After enduring a challenging couple of years that saw her ranking drop, Teichmann is determined to make a strong comeback with impressive performances on Mumbai's hard courts.

A seasoned competitor with multiple WTA and ITF titles to her name, Teichmann has played at the highest level worldwide and is particularly pleased with the conditions at this tournament. Speaking about the playing surface, she noted, "The surface has good quality and is very slow. It reminds me a lot of Indian Wells."
Beyond the game itself, she also praised the event's organization and the venue's upkeep. "The facilities and the club here is very good. The people working have done a great job in keeping the venue clean and organizing everything, I have nothing to complain," she added.
Competing in India for the first time, Teichmann was delighted by the warm reception she received in Mumbai. "I've heard very good things about India and I am happy to see that everything is true. The people here are super nice and I feel very welcomed here. I am loving my time here in Mumbai."
Despite having little time to adjust after arriving directly from the Singapore Open, she made an immediate impact, securing a thrilling three-set victory over Arianne Hartono in the Round of 16. She is clear about her ambitions moving forward, stating, "My goal is to advance as far as possible in this tournament, break into the top 100, and qualify for the main draws in the Slams."
Teichmann will next face India's Shrivalli Bhamidipaty in the singles quarterfinals on February 7.
The Mumbai Open Tennis Championships, now in its fourth edition, made a comeback in 2024 after a six-year hiatus. The event has seen some notable champions over the years, including Aryna Sabalenka, who won the title in 2017 as a teenager before going on to claim the 2024 Australian Open. Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum emerged victorious in 2018, while Latvia's Darja Semeņistaja lifted the trophy in 2024.
