Jannik Sinner has dismissed claims that the potential of a doping ban motivated his victory at the Australian Open.
Sinner, who secured his second consecutive Melbourne title by defeating German second seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets, stated his triumph was driven by his "clear mind" and belief in his innocence.

The world number one has been under scrutiny after testing positive for clostebol, a banned substance, in April. An independent panel cleared him of wrongdoing, accepting his explanation that contamination occurred inadvertently through his physiotherapist. Despite the ruling, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed the decision, seeking a ban of one to two years. Sinner's case will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on April 16-17, just weeks before the French Open.
Speaking after his Australian Open victory, the 23-year-old reflected on his mindset amid the ongoing controversy.
"I keep playing like this because I have a clear mind on what happened," he said.
"If I know if I would be guilty, I would not play like this, and that's it. I just came off an amazing run again here. I want to enjoy this moment," the Italian added.
The controversy stems from Sinner testing positive twice for clostebol-a steroid used to build muscle mass-during the Indian Wells tournament in March 2024. While Sinner did not dispute the findings, he argued the traces in his system were due to accidental contamination. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) supported Sinner's claim, stating there was "no fault or negligence" and deeming his explanation "credible."
However, WADA has challenged this conclusion, arguing the independent panel's decision was "not correct under the applicable rules." Despite the looming uncertainty, Sinner remains optimistic about the final verdict.
"I still believe every time [the ruling] came out in a very positive way, and I still believe it's going to be that case. At the moment I'm not thinking about this. Of course, you have your moments of certain days where you feel like I wish I would not have this problem. In the other way, I'm always looking forward to go on court," he concluded.
