Jannik Sinner eclipses Roger Federer amid Australian Open Crown, creates Massive Record

Jannik Sinner has etched his name into the history books yet again with a masterclass performance at the Australian Open.

The 23-year-old Italian defended his crown in Melbourne, defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev in straight sets to claim his third Grand Slam title within a year.

This victory also sees Sinner shatter one of Roger Federer's long-standing records, further solidifying his place as one of the best players in tennis history.

In his relentless run to the title, Sinner became the first player to win 10 consecutive straight-set matches against top-10 opponents since the rankings were first published in 1973. By doing so, he eclipsed Federer's 2007 record of 20 consecutive sets won against top-10 players, setting a new benchmark with 22 straight sets.

Such a feat underscores Sinner's dominance and ability to deliver his best on the sport's grandest stages. This milestone also places Sinner alongside the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Federer himself as players who have not only won majors but done so while achieving remarkable consistency.

Sinner is now the first player to successfully defend his maiden Grand Slam title since Rafael Nadal did so at the French Open in 2006. Furthermore, he joins an elite group as the fifth player in the Open Era to win three consecutive hard-court Grand Slam titles, a feat last achieved by Djokovic between 2015 and 2016.

The Italian also equalled the record of Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors for most wins in their first 50 matches as the World No. 1 player.
