Jannik Sinner Says He Is Not Thinking About Defending Wimbledon Title Ahead of Round of 16

Defending Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner says he is not thinking about defending his crown and is instead focused solely on taking each match as it comes as he prepares for his Round of 16 clash at the All England Club.

Speaking to JioStar, the world No. 1 insisted last year's triumph counts for little as he continues his bid to retain the Wimbledon title.

'Whatever happened in the past is in the past'

Sinner dismissed the idea that he is carrying the burden of defending his title, saying his focus remains firmly on the next opponent.

"I always say that I am not defending anything. I just try to get as close as I can. Whatever happened in the past is in the past."

The Italian added that while lifting the trophy last year created unforgettable memories, he knows every match at Wimbledon presents a fresh challenge.

"I am very happy to be back here at Wimbledon. I have great memories, of course of last year, but I also know that it is very tricky. I never take any match lightly. I know the next match is going to be tough. That is the only thing I am focused on right now. After that, we will see how it goes."

Sinner reaches fourth round for fifth straight year

The reigning champion booked his place in the fourth round with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 victory over American Jenson Brooksby.

Although the scoreline suggested a comfortable win, Sinner was tested throughout the contest, committing 26 unforced errors and even dropping serve while attempting to close out the match in the third set.

However, the top seed responded strongly to complete the victory in two hours and 13 minutes and advance to the last 16 for the fifth consecutive year.

Qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki awaits

Sinner will next face Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki, who earned his place in the fourth round after defeating Spain's Rafael Jodar in four sets.

The Italian is aiming to become just the 10th man in the Open Era to successfully defend the Wimbledon men's singles title.

Daniil Medvedev crashes out

Elsewhere in the men's draw, Jan-Lennard Struff produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by defeating two-time Wimbledon semi-finalist Daniil Medvedev **7-6(4), 7-6(5), 7-5**.

The result removed one of Sinner's projected quarter-final opponents and extended Medvedev's disappointing Grand Slam run, with the former world No. 1 now failing to progress beyond the fourth round in each of his last seven major appearances.

With Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Sinner all still in contention, the battle for the Wimbledon title continues to gather momentum as the tournament enters its second week.
