Jannik Sinner to play in Hamburg Open following suspension

By Chloe Horswill

Jannik Sinner will play at the Hamburg Open in May after his three-month suspension ends. The world number one accepted the suspension over two positive drug tests last year, having tested positive for clostebol, which is a banned substance.

Sinner's explanation was that he was inadvertently contaminated by his physiotherapist, who was treating him for a cut on his hand with an over-the-counter spray.

"For the first time in his career, Jannik Sinner will compete at the 2025 Hamburg Open," tournament organisers confirmed on social media.

The reigning US Open and Australian Open champion's suspension ends on May 4, meaning he will be able to compete at the French Open, which begins on May 25.

The event in Hamburg, which Sinner will compete in for the first time, will be the second after his return, as he will also be playing on home soil at the Italian Open earlier in May.
