Jannik Sinner clinched his fifth ATP tour title of the season by defeating Frances Tiafoe in straight sets at the Cincinnati Open. The world number one secured his 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 victory in one hour and 37 minutes, overcoming back-to-back three-set matches to reach the final. Despite a hip injury from the Madrid Open in May, Sinner managed to overcome the Frenchman.
Sinner expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, "It was very tough mentally. Had such an amazing run here, and I tried to do my best today. We both were quite tired from yesterday. We both felt a lot of tension, but I'm very glad about [the] level I played today, especially in the important moments."

The first set saw both players evenly matched, leading to a tie-break where Sinner eventually took the lead. In the second set, Sinner gained an early break in the first game, boosting his confidence as he moved ahead. Tiafoe continued to fight and defended match point three times in the penultimate game but couldn't prevent Sinner from serving to love in the final game to claim the trophy.
"It has been a tough week, some ups and downs, which is normal to have," Sinner added. "But how I handled the very important moments in each match, I'm very happy. I'm very happy to be in a position where I am and just trying to keep going mentally, having this hunger to keep playing, and hopefully, I can show some good tennis also in New York."
Sinner's victory marks his 15th career ATP title from 19 finals, equalling Carlos Alcaraz and Lleyton Hewitt's records. Only Rafael Nadal has won more titles from his first 19 ATP event finals during the Open Era. This win also represents Sinner's third ATP Masters 1000 title on hard court.
In recent years, only Novak Djokovic (17), Roger Federer (seven), and Daniil Medvedev (five) have won more Masters titles on hard courts than Sinner.
The Italian player's journey through this tournament was marked by resilience and determination. His ability to perform under pressure was evident throughout his matches.
Sinner's triumph at Cincinnati adds another significant achievement to his growing list of accolades. His performance continues to solidify his status among tennis elites.
