Lionel Messi shares heartfelt message to Rafael Nadal after Tennis star's Retirement - Watch

Lionel Messi sent a special message to Rafael Nadal after the tennis star announced his retirement on Thursday (October 10).

Nadal called it a day to his illustrious career which spanned more than two decades. The Spaniard won 22 Grand Slams in a career spanning 23 years.

Nadal released a heartfelt video on social media confirming his retirement. The legendary player confirmed persistent injury woes which prompted him to take the retirement decision.

"I am here to let you know I am retiring from professional tennis. The reality is that it has been some difficult years, the last two especially. I don't think I have been able to play without limitations," Nadal said.

The upcoming Davis Cup stretch will be Nadal's final participation in Tennis. He was included in the Spanish team for the Davis Cup Finals, which will be played from November 19 to November 24. Nadal will take on Netherlands' Botic van de Zandschulp in his singles match in the quarterfinals.

As Nadal announced his retirement, sports personnel across the globe poured in their wishes. Amid them, Argentina legend and football gladiator Lionel Messi also shared his thoughts. Messi recorded a heartwarming video for Nadal from Venezuela, as he was there for Argentina's World Cup qualifiers match.

"Hi Rafa, I would like to say that you are an example to everyone for your hard work, perseverance and staying at the highest level for so many years. I wanted to send Warm Regards to You. See You," Messi said in a video released by Laureus Sport.

As the glaring star of Tennis bids adieu to the court, Nadal will be hoping for a glorious swansong in the Davis Cup tournament.
