Lorenzo Musetti Wins Bronze, Ends Italy's Century-Long Olympic Tennis Wait

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime to win bronze in men's singles at the Paris Olympics, securing Italy's first tennis medal since 1924. This victory at Roland-Garros marks a historic moment for Italian tennis.

Lorenzo Musetti triumphed over Felix Auger-Aliassime to secure bronze in the men's singles at the Paris Olympics. Musetti, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 on Saturday at Roland-Garros. This victory marked a historic moment for Italy, as Musetti became the first Italian tennis player to win an Olympic medal since Uberto de Morpugo in 1924, also held in Paris.

Before Musetti's win, Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz clinched bronze in the men's doubles by defeating Tomas Machac and Adam Pavlasek. The American pair lost to gold medallists Matthew Ebden and John Peers in the semi-finals but bounced back with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Paul and Fritz dominated the first set with a double break in the sixth game and maintained their lead despite losing two games.

Musetti Wins Historic Olympic Bronze

The Americans missed three match points but secured their podium finish in the 10th game. Team USA celebrated two medals from doubles events after Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram earned silver earlier that day.

Although Auger-Aliassime didn't win a singles medal, he did secure bronze in mixed doubles. Meanwhile, Czechia had reason to celebrate as Tomas Machac and Katerina Siniakova won gold in mixed doubles on Friday.
