The Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania Group-1 tournament is set to take place in Pune from April 8 to 12, marking a significant event in India's tennis history.
This will be the first time the country hosts this prestigious tournament, with Maharashtra welcoming it back after 25 years at the Mhalunge Balewadi tennis complex.

India's women's tennis team, led by Ankita Raina, is gearing up to leverage home advantage. The squad includes Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, and Vaidehi Chaudhari, all ranked between 300 and 358. The team aims to secure one of the two qualification spots available from the region.
Sunder Iyer, Hon Secretary of MSLTA, expressed excitement about hosting another high-level event following the success of previous tournaments like the L&T Mumbai Open WTA and PMRDA MahaOpen ATP Challenger. "MSLTA has hosted nearly all the big tennis events in Pune but we have never hosted the BKJC or the FED Cup," he added.
Prarthana Thombare, an experienced doubles specialist ranked 137 in doubles, joins the Indian team. Her recent runner-up finish at the WTA Mumbai Open provides captain Vishal Uppal with strategic options for the tournament.
The competition will feature six teams from the Asia-Oceania Zone: New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, Korea, Thailand, and host India. Matches will follow a round-robin format with each tie consisting of two singles matches followed by a doubles match.
New Zealand's Lulu Sun stands out as a top competitor with her world ranking of 44th. She will be joined by teammates Monique Barry and Aishi Das as they aim to make a strong impression in Pune.
Thailand presents a formidable challenge with singles players Mananchaya Sawangkaew (ranked 111) and Lanlana Tararudee (173). Their squad also includes Thasaporn Naklo, Patcharin Cheapchandej, and doubles expert Peangtarn Plipuech.
Korea's team relies on Sohyun Park (ranked 310), who recently won an international title in India. She will compete alongside Dayeon Back, Eunhye Lee, Boyoung Jeong, and Kim Dabin.
Chinese Taipei is led by Joanna Garland (ranked 212) and features players like Ya-Hsuan Lee and Yi-Tsen Cho. Their strength lies particularly in their doubles setup with Fang-An Lin and Fang Hsien Wu.
Hong Kong China's challenge is spearheaded by Hong Yi Cody Wong (350) and Eudice Chong (356), known for their formidable doubles partnership. The team also includes Ho Ching Wu, Man Ying Maggie Ng, and Justine Leong.
The absence of powerhouses such as Japan, China, and Kazakhstan provides India an opportunity yet poses challenges against strong teams like New Zealand and Thailand. With familiar conditions on their side, India's team hopes to replicate past successes in this competition.
