Murray warns Federer that he is a far better player than ever before

London, Aug 31 (ANI): World No.2 Andy Murray has warned top ranked tennis star Roger Federer that he is a far better player in comparison to last year.

"I'm a far better player than a year ago," Murray said.

The British star lost to Federer in the US Open final 12 months ago. But Murray has now moved above Rafa Nadal to take the world No 2 spot and is the best-performing player on hard courts - the surface used for US Open championships, which begins today.

Murray, 22, who won the US Open junior title in 2004, said: "Last year was the first time I got past the quarter-finals of a Slam, so that was a great experience for me."

"I learned a lot from last year. I went away and worked very hard after that to improve myself.

I view Roger and Rafa as the two best rivals ever. I'm sure by the time they finish you'll have the most Slams between any two rivals by quite a long way," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

"But, at the same time, you raise your game to the competition you play against. It's a bit disrespectful to the other players to view not reaching the final as a failure. But I'd be disappointed, that's for sure. I want to win every tournament I play in," he added.

"Winning a Grand Slam is incredibly difficult, but something that I believe is possible," Murray said.

Murray faces Latvian Ernests Gulbis in the first round. After that, he has a tricky draw, including a possible semi with Nadal. (ANI)
