Lorenzo Musetti Triumphs Over Zverev To Enter Olympic Semi-Finals

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Alexander Zverev in straight sets (7-5, 7-5) at Roland-Garros, securing a place in the Olympic semi-finals. This victory marks Musetti as the third Italian to reach this stage in men's singles at the Olympics.

Lorenzo Musetti ended Alexander Zverev's Olympic gold-medal defence in straight sets, securing a spot in the semi-finals. The Italian triumphed 7-5, 7-5 in just over two hours at Roland-Garros. Zverev faced challenges from the start, losing his serve in the opening game. Although he managed to level at 5-5, Musetti broke again to take the first set.

The second set saw both players evenly matched until Musetti gained an edge with a three-game winning streak. He eventually served to love to seal the match. Musetti will next face either former world number one Novak Djokovic or Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Musetti Advances to Olympics Semi-Finals

This victory marks only the second meeting between Musetti and Zverev, with their first encounter ending prematurely due to an injury in Madrid in 2022. By winning this match, Musetti becomes just the third Italian player to reach the men's singles semi-finals at the Olympics. He follows in the footsteps of Uberto De Morpurgo (Paris 1924) and Paolo Cane (Los Angeles 1984).
