Naomi Osaka achieved a significant victory at the US Open by defeating Jelena Ostapenko on Tuesday. Ranked 88th in the world, Osaka triumphed with a 6-3, 6-2 win, marking her first top-10 victory in over four years.
Osaka's performance at the US Open has been impressive, winning 23 out of her 28 matches, giving her an 82% win ratio. Only Bianca Andreescu, with an 86% win ratio among current players with at least ten main-draw matches, surpasses her.

The four-time major champion was visibly emotional after defeating the 10th seed in New York. "I was trying not to cry when I was walking out too," Osaka said during her on-court interview. She recalled watching Coco Gauff play last year and longing to compete again but doubting her physical and athletic capabilities.
Osaka expressed immense gratitude for winning the match and being back in the competitive atmosphere. "Just to win this match and just to be in this atmosphere means so much to me, so thank you," she added.
Throughout the match, Osaka maintained her serve and won 39 out of her 50 service points. She needed three match points to secure her place in the second round. Reflecting on the match, she said, "I mean it was stressful, she was hitting some really good shots and I just told myself like, keep going, keep fighting for every point and maybe you'll have an opportunity."
Osaka acknowledged feeling overwhelmed by the crowd's support but remained focused. "Eventually I did but then I looked up and then I saw so many faces so I was like, woah," she mentioned.
Next up for Osaka is a match against unseeded Karolina Muchova on Thursday. This follows her successful first-round triumph.
The Japanese star's return to form and emotional resilience have been noteworthy as she continues her journey at the US Open.
