Newsmakers 2017: Tennis: Rohan Bopanna

Bopanna became the fourth Indian to win a Grand Slam title. The closest Bopanna had come to a grand slam win was back in 2010, where he finished runner-up in the US Open doubles final.

As they saying goes, better late than never.

And Rohan Bopanna proved that the wait was worth it, as he won his maiden Grand Slam title, after lifting the mixed doubles French Open title with partner Gabriela Dabrowski.

Bopanna became the fourth Indian to win a Grand Slam title. The closest Bopanna had come to a grand slam win was back in 2010, where he finished runner-up in the US Open doubles final.

It took him seven years to reach another final. But veteran Bopanna did achieve the feat, and that gave him a new beginning at the age of 37.
