Djokovic withdraws from Monte-Carlo Masters with shoulder injury

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Monte-Carlo Masters as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.

Djokovic has not competed since the fourth round at Indian Wells, when he was knocked out by Jack Draper, having pulled out of the Miami Open in the aftermath of that exit.

The two-time Monte-Carlo champion is now slated to return for next month's Madrid Open.

"We send him our best wishes and hope to see him back on court very soon," tournament organisers said on an Instagram story.

Djokovic owns the record for the most ATP Masters 1000 titles (40) and has 101 tour-level titles to his name overall, most recently triumphing in Athens last November.

The former world number one is 7-2 for the season so far, having started 2026 by reaching a record-extending 11th Australian Open final, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

And Taylor Fritz has also pulled out of Monte-Carlo; he was knocked out in the fourth round in Miami by Jiri Lehecka, seemingly suffering an injury during that match.

Alcaraz, who is the defending champion in Monte-Carlo, as well as Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, will headline the field for the clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event, with the main draw beginning on April 5.
