Ons Jabeur Out Of US Open With Shoulder Injury, Misses Grand Slam

Ons Jabeur has withdrawn from the US Open due to a shoulder injury. After struggling with injuries throughout the season and missing several tournaments, she announced her decision just before the grand slam.

Ons Jabeur has pulled out of the US Open due to a shoulder injury, just days before the final grand slam of the season begins. Recently, she competed at the Canadian Open in Toronto but was defeated by Naomi Osaka in straight sets during the first round.

The Tunisian athlete has faced injuries throughout this season, causing her to miss significant events like the Paris Olympics and tournaments in Washington and Cincinnati. Following the US Open draw announcement, Jabeur, ranked 17th globally, decided her shoulder injury would prevent her from participating at Flushing Meadows.

Jabeur Misses US Open Due to Injury

In an Instagram post, Jabeur expressed her disappointment: "I am truly sad to announce that my shoulder won't recover in time for the US Open. I feel I need to give 100%, and today it's not possible yet." She added, "Life has ups and downs, but sometimes in the very negative moments we all need to find the positive in it. This year has been very tough for me, but I know somewhere the light is there. Always grateful for the unconditional support you all bring to me."

Jabeur will be replaced by Elise Mertens in the women's singles event. Mertens will take over as the number 33 seed. The official US Open Tennis account tweeted their well-wishes: "Get well soon, @Ons_Jabeur!"

The 29-year-old Jabeur had her best grand slam performance at the US Open in 2022 when she reached the final but lost to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. She also narrowly missed winning major titles with two final appearances at Wimbledon in both 2022 and 2023.

Despite these setbacks, Jabeur remains optimistic about her future in tennis. Her resilience and determination have earned her a strong following and admiration from fans worldwide.

This year has indeed been challenging for Jabeur due to persistent injuries. However, she continues to find positivity amid adversity and remains hopeful for better days ahead.

As she steps away from this year's US Open, fans and fellow players alike are sending their best wishes for a speedy recovery. The tennis community eagerly awaits her return to full fitness and competition.
