Paes, Bopanna advances in French Open

{image-Leander Paes_30052008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Paris, May 30: Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi had a forgetful Grand Slam debut as the Indo-Pak duo were ousted by the top seeds Mike and Bob Bryan in the opening round of the men's doubles at French Open.

The unseeded Indo-Pak pair were outplayed in their first round match as they went down 1-6, 4-6 in just 53 minutes here yesterday. The Bryan brothers were way ahead of their Indo-Pak counterparts as they wrapped up the first set in just 24 minutes. But Bopanna and Qureshi did manage to put up some fight in the second set and won four games, but still their skills could not match the Americans' expertise who then went to on to win the second set 6-4.

The American duo was clearly a class apart and made little effort as they converted four of the nine breakpoints while the Indo-Pak pair could win only one of the five that came their way.

The Americans showed their dominance in winning points on the first serve.

Meanwhile, India's ace doubles player Mahesh Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles too were shown the doors in the first round.

The only Indian in the fray is Davis Cup captain Leander Paes, who with his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy advanced to the second round, yesterday.
