Paes-Damn through to semis in Legg Mason Classic

By Staff

Washington, Aug 3: Leander and his Czech partner Martin Damm survived a scare against the unseeded pair of Chris Haggard of South Africa and Ivo Karlovic of Croatia before advancing in the semi-finals of the Legg Mason Classic here.

The second seeded Indo-Czech pair had to battle a marathon three-setter 6-7, 6-3, 10-8 to get the better of Haggard-Karlovic duo and move into the semi-finals of the 600,000 dollar hard court event.

Paes remains lone flag bearer for India in the tournament as his estranged partner Mahesh Bhupathi who had a new partner in Tim Henman of England had already made an exit from the tournament.

The second seeds will now face the winners of match between fourth seedeed all Israeli pair of Jonathan Elrich-Andy Ram and German-Russian combination of Benjamin Becker and Igor Kunitsyn.
