Paes lambasts media for blowing 'Amritraj issue' out of proportion

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) India's Davis Cup captain Leander Paes today lamented that he talked to media about Prakash Amritraj's disciplinary breach and alleged that his comments were blown out of proportion.

''I should not have talked to the media about Prakash's conduct,'' Paes told newspersons after India's doubles tie against Uzbekistan in the ongoing Davis Cup.

''What I said was it was unprofessional on Prakash's part to have gone for a party on the eve of the Davis Cup match,'' he added.

Amritraj was nursing a stomach ailment, due to which he was kept out from the first two days of the Asia/Oceania Zone group I tie against Uzbekistan.

However, media reports suggested that Amritraj picked up the ailment during a late night party on the eve of the match.

Meanwhile, Mahesh Bhupathi who along with Rohan Bopanna took India's lead to 2-1 with their doubles win against Uzbekistan today came in support of the young US-based player and claimed it was unfair to criticise Amritraj who had gone out to attend a birthday party.

''What I know, it was merely a birthday party where I was also invited but did not go. No alcohol was involved. We are all professionals and know where to draw the line,'' Bhupathi said after his doubles' tie.
