Paes-Robredo reach Hamburg Masters quarterfinal

New Delhi, May 15: India's Leander Paes and his new Spanish partner Tommy Robredo cruised into the quarterfinals of the doubles event in the Hamburg Masters tennis tournament in Germany, stunning third seed Israeli pair of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram in the second round.

The unseeded Paes and Robredo had to stretch themselves to the full to prevail over the Erlich-Ram pair 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 in the super tie-breaker last night. The Indo-Spanish will now take on the winners of the match between eighth seed Australian-South African pair of Paul Hanley and Wesley Moodie and the unseeded Croat-Swedish combination of Ivan Ljubicic and Robin Soderling.

However, another Indian in the tournament Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles of Bahamas had already suffered a straight set defeat in the second round to bow out of the event by the unseeded American pair of James Blake and Mardy Fish.
