Pegula Set For Tough Sabalenka Match In Cincinnati Open Final

Jessica Pegula faces Aryna Sabalenka in the Cincinnati Open final. Pegula, with a recent WTA 1000 title win, acknowledges the challenge posed by world number three Sabalenka.

Jessica Pegula is set to face Aryna Sabalenka in the Cincinnati Open final on Monday. Pegula recently clinched her third WTA 1000 title at the Canadian Open in Toronto, all on hard courts. She matched her longest career winning streak of nine matches by overcoming Paula Badosa 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the semi-finals.

By reaching the Cincinnati final, Pegula became the sixth player in the Open Era to reach both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open finals in a calendar year. She joins an elite group that includes Rosie Casals, Evonne Goolagong, Na Li, Serena Williams, and Simona Halep. Reflecting on her performance, Pegula said: "I think I'm just finding my game a little bit and then competing and being smart out there."

Pegula vs Sabalenka: Cincinnati Clash

The American player remains cautious ahead of her match against world number three Sabalenka. The Belarusian secured her spot in the final by defeating world number one Iga Swiatek in straight sets. Pegula acknowledged Sabalenka's strong form: "It seems like she's been playing really, really good," she told the media.

Pegula is aware of the challenges posed by Sabalenka's powerful serve. "Obviously she can serve really big, so it's always tough to deal with opponents that have weapons like that," Pegula noted. The fast hard court surface adds another layer of difficulty when facing such formidable serves.
