A photograph of an emotional Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer after the latter's final competitive match has won the Independent category in The World Sports Photography Awards.

The image, captured by Neha Ganerwal, was chosen as one of ten winners out of more than 800 submissions from independent photographers worldwide.

The photos showcased a wide range of sports disciplines, capturing both intense action shots and moments that embody teamwork and perseverance across various levels of athleticism.

Last year, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer bid farewell to professional tennis. In his final match at the Laver Cup, he teamed up with his former on-court rival turned friend, Rafael Nadal.

Representing Team Europe, they faced off against Team World duo Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe in a doubles match. Unfortunately, Nadal and Federer lost with a scoreline of 6-4, 7-6, 9-11.

Notably, Novak Djokovic also joined forces with Nadal and Federer for this tournament. After the event concluded, all three players were overcome with emotions during a heartfelt moment, which was beautifully captured in the award-winning photograph.

The World Sports Photography Awards is the largest sports photography competition globally, attracting over 7,000 submissions each year across more than 30 different sports.
