Plus 25 tennis tournament begins tomorrow
Chandigarh, Feb 25 (UNI) V Shankar of Delhi is the highest ranked (AITA 215 points) player in the plus 45 singles category of the All India Tennis Association Senior Tennis Tournament begining at the Chandigarh Club grass courts here tomorrow.
The tournament is being hosted by the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA).
Announcing this here today, CLTA chairman Rajan Kashyap, who himself will take part in the plus 55 singles, said Rakesh Kohli and Punit Gupta, both of Uttar Pradesh, would be the other ranked players to be seen in action in the plus 45 singles.
Dhawal Patel of Maharashtra, with 23rd ranking, will lead the challenge in the plus 55 singles. Among others who have sent their entries in the above 55 singles are SP Dalvi, Harsh Vardhan Birla, RI Singh, Rajinder Bansal, Lt Col H S Tiwana and Rajan Kashyap.
Competitions in the plus 45 and plus 55 doubles will also be held at the Chandigarh Club courts.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani players have expressed their inability to take part in the tournament this time due to some unavoidable circumstances. Consequently, the Indo-Pak Veterans Series has been postponed. New dates will be announced after receiving fresh communication from the Pakistan Tennis Federation.
