Rafael Nadal charges into US Open semifinals

New York, Sep 10: Rafael Nadal, the fiery Spiniard on the look-out for his first US Open title, charged closer to realizing his dream on Thursday, Sep 9 by sailing past the quarterfinals.

The top seeded player and world number one defeated eighth-seeded compatriot Fernando Verdasco 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to enter the semifinals.

Nadal, who has claimed the French Open and the Wimbledon 2010, is fighting for a victory at the Flushing Meadows to complete the career Golden Slam.

Nadal will be battling against 12th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny of Russia on Saturday, Sep 11 for a spot in the finals.
