The doubles pairing of Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz for the Paris 2024 Olympics has been the talk of the town. The prospect of seeing two of Spain's tennis icons joining forces has the tennis world abuzz, and the excitement is shared by the players themselves.

"I'm thrilled to play alongside the best player in the world right now," Nadal expressed enthusiastically during a press conference at Roland Garros. His comments came after their first practice session, where the duo prepared for the Olympic Tennis Event starting this Saturday.

Carlos Alcaraz has had an outstanding 2024 so far. He claimed the Australian Open title in January. He continued his stellar form by winning the Madrid Open in May, adding another Masters 1000 title to his resume. Alcaraz's remarkable season continued thrilling victory at Wimbledon over none other Novak Djokovic, where he claimed his second Grand Slam of the year.

Throughout the session, Nadal took on a mentor role, guiding Alcaraz against their compatriots Marcel Granollers and Pablo Carreno Busta. Despite both being more accustomed to singles play, the duo is set to deliver. "Carlos hasn’t played much doubles, and I haven’t played much of either lately, so we're leaning on Carlos’ momentum," Nadal explained.

Nadal's Olympic journey has been remarkable. The 22-time Grand Slam champion clinched singles gold at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and doubles gold at Rio 2016 with Marc Lopez.

After missing the London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 Games due to injury, Nadal is eager to compete again on the Olympic stage. "Missing those two Olympics during key moments of my career hurt more than missing Grand Slams," he reflected.

For Alcaraz, the young Spaniard feels a profound sense of duty beyond personal ambition to make his Olympic debut a memorable one. "I'm not just playing for myself but for my teammates and my country. That makes it even more special," Alcaraz shared.

Nadal's mentoring, combined with Alcaraz's current form, suggests a promising partnership. Fans are eager to see how this dynamic duo will perform, hoping for another golden moment in Spain's rich tennis history.
