Federer juggernaut rolls on, enters quarter-final

By Biswajeet Panda
Melbourne, Jan 23: Roger Federer interspersed some incredible tennis with real erratic ones to scamper through his fourth round match against Tommy Robredo in the Australian Open 2011. He beat the Spaniard 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-2 to enter the quarter-finals.

The Swiss maestro, pursuing a record 17th Grand Slam title won the first set convincingly only to lose the second set. He did well to recover from the loss by winning the third set in yet another display of masterful play.

In comparison to the third set, the second could have looked like an aberration had it not been for a tough fightback by Robredo in the fourth set. Robredo who fought admirably to give Federer a run for his money was finally undone by the class of the Swiss legend. He could only manage to find the net after Federer dispatched a full-blooded stroke to eventually win the fourth set as well as the match.

If Federer manages to win the title, he will become the second man since Roy Emerson to win the Australian open five times. Emerson won it six times. With this victory the Swiss legend became the winner of the most matches of the Open era at the Australian open.
