Sabalenka Secures Fourth Consecutive US Open Quarter-Final Spot

Aryna Sabalenka reaches the US Open quarter-finals after defeating Elise Mertens in straight sets. This marks her fourth consecutive quarter-final appearance at Flushing Meadows.

Aryna Sabalenka advanced to another US Open quarter-final with a straight-sets win over Elise Mertens. The Belarusian player took an hour and 36 minutes to secure a 6-2, 6-4 victory, marking her fourth consecutive quarter-final appearance at the tournament.

Sabalenka's performance was dominant, hitting 41 winners compared to Mertens' 14. Reflecting on her experience, she said, "I really enjoy playing here. The crowd are amazing. I really enjoy playing on these big stadiums and feel all the support. I just don't want to leave early here. I just want to stay as long as I can and enjoy this beautiful court. I think that's why I'm consistently here."

Sabalenka into US Open QFs

Since the start of the 2020 season, Sabalenka has become the first player to reach 10 or more women's singles quarter-finals at Grand Slam events. This achievement underscores her consistency and dominance in women's tennis.

Sabalenka will next face China's Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen in the last eight. Zheng defeated silver medallist Donna Vekic with a score of 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-2. This match will be a repeat of their Australian Open final earlier this year.

Sabalenka has now claimed her 25th women's singles match win at the US Open. Since 2000, only Kim Clijsters has achieved 25 wins at the event in fewer matches than Sabalenka, who accomplished it in 31 matches.

Additionally, Sabalenka reached her fourth consecutive women's singles quarter-final at the US Open. She is the first player to achieve this since Serena Williams, who made six straight quarter-finals between 2011 and 2016.

A year after losing to Coco Gauff in the final, Sabalenka watched as Gauff exited the competition following a defeat to Emma Navarro before she took to the court herself. However, Sabalenka ensured there would be no upset this time around.

The Belarusian's journey continues as she aims for redemption at Flushing Meadows. Her consistent performances have solidified her status as one of the top players in women's tennis today.

As she moves forward in the tournament, all eyes will be on Sabalenka to see if she can continue her impressive run and possibly clinch her first US Open title.
