Safin opts out of Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open due to injury

By Staff

Mumbai, Sep 15 (UNI) World No. 27 Marat Safin has pulled out of the Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open 2007 due to a wrist injury.

Confirming this, Tournament Director Gaurav Natekar said, ''It's very unfortunate that one of our star players has pulled out of the Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open 2007. He has a stress fracture on the left wrist, which is not a small injury. We have been advised by the ATP, that it is the very same reason that he has also pulled out of the Tokyo and Moscow events, as well as the Davis Cup.'' Top notch players from around the world will take centre stage at the second edition of the 6,000 Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open.

The strong line-up that will battle it out on the hard courts of the Cricket Club of India (CCI) include power-packed performers like 2006 Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis, Wimbledon and US Open Champion Lleyton Hewitt and Richard Gasquet, a release issued here today stated.
