Sania drops one place in both singles and doubles

New Delhi, Sep 24: After clinging on to the 27th position for three consecutive weeks, Sania Mirza dropped one place to 28th place in latest WTA ranking issued today.

The 20-year-old Hyderabadi who is out of action since her early exit from the last grandslam of the season -- the US Open, has been nursing a wrist injury which also forced her to miss the Sunfeast Open WTA event which concluded in Kolkata yesterday.

Interestingly, the newly-crowned Sunfeast Open champion Maria Kirilenko of Russia is lying just one place below the Indian in the singles ranking. By virtue of her title triumph in Kolkata yesterday, she climbed up six places to be placed at the 29th spot.

Adding to the woes, Sania also dipped one rung in the doubles ranking to be placed at 19th spot in the latest rankings.

Meanwhile, in the ATP rankings, there were no major movements as both Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi held on to their last week position of 21st and 16th respectively, while talented Rohan Bopanna, slipped one place to the 85th position.

Bopanna, however, climbed up one spot to be placed at 244th spot in the singles ranking, while his compatriot Prakash Amritraj shot up two places to take the 269th position.
