Sania gains four places to 37th in doubles, drops one in singles

New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) Sania Mirza reaped the harvest of Morocco Open doubles win last week to jump four places to 37th but dropped one place to 52nd in singles in the latest WTA rankings issued today.

The win at Morocco, which she achieved as top seeds partnering Vania King of USA, also handed the Indian second successive top billing in doubles as she and Chan Yung Jan of Chinese Taipei lead a 16-pair field in the Istanbul Cup which began here today.

In the singles rankings, however, the Hyderabadi girl's first round shock exit at Morocco saw her drop one place to 52nd. She had created history there by becoming the first Indian to be seeded top in singles in any WTA tournament.

Sania has been seeded eighth and handed a relatively easier first round against lower ranked Meghann Shaughnessy of USA in Istanbul.
