Sania-Mattek in Indian Wells semis, Bhupati goes down in doubles

Indian Wells, California (UNI) India's Sania Mirza and her American doubles partner Bethanie Mattek knocked out the second seeded pair of Yung Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei to enter the semi finals of 2.1 million dollars Pacific Life Open here.

The Indo-American duo ended their rivals' campaign in the tournament as they pulled off the win in two hard fought sets, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 in the quarterfinals yesterday.

Meanwhile, sixth seeded Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles of the Bahamas crashed out after going down 6-3, 6-4 to Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel in the quarter-finals.

The Indo-Bahmian pair had won two successive doubles tournaments this season and were one of the favouraites to win here too.
