Sania retains 27th spot in WTA rankings

New Delhi, Sep 17: Notwithstanding her third round exit from the US Open, Sania Mirza managed to retain the 27th place for the third successive week in the WTA rankings released today.

The 20-year-old Hyderabadi, who at present is nursing a wrist injury, also clung on to the 18th slot in the doubles rankings.

However, it is still uncertain whether Sania would be able to take part in the Sunfeast Open in Kolkata where she has been pitted against US-based Sunitha Rao in the first round.

Meanwhile, in the men's ranking, Mahesh Bhupathi, due to his first round defeat in China Open, slipped down one place from the doubles leaderboard and is placed at the 21st position, while his compatriot Leander Paes continue to be ranked 16th.

Another Indian Rohan Bopanna, improved his doubles ranking by two places to be at the 84th rank. He also moved up seven spots to be 245th in the ATP men's singles ranking.
