Sania slips 15 spots to 50th in the WTA singles ranking

New Delhi, Jul 28 (UNI) Sania Mirza's poor form finally took a toll on her singles ranking as she went down 15 places to the 50th spot in the latest WTA rankings released today.

Running through the worst phase of her career, Sania Mirza's doubles rankings also went down six places from 20th last week to 26th.

Coming back from injury four-month ago, Sania's performance was not up to the mark as she crashed out of the singles event of the Los Angles Classic tournament in the second round while in the doubles she and her American partner Bethanie Mattek bowed out in the semi-finals.

In the men's section, Mahesh Bhupathi gained two positions from 12th to reach 10th spot in ranking.

On the other hand, Leander Paes clung to his position on 15th spot in the latest ranking.

Ana Ivanovic of Serbia remains top of the women's tennis rankings although compatriot Jelena Jankovic has closed the gap lying on the second position while Russian sensation Maria Sharapova holds the third spot.

In the men's section Switzerland's Roger Federer holds the first position whereas Spaniard Rafael Nadal is at second and Novak Djokovic is at third spot.
