Sania still uncertain, Kyra given wildcard into main draw

Kolkata, Sep 14 (UNI) While Sania Mirza still remains uncertain for Sunfeast Open, the organizers announced the three wild cards into the main draw that included prodigious Kyra Shroff.

Jaidip Mukherjea, tournament director of Sunfeast, said here today,''the three wild cards for the main draw are Tara Iyer, Kyra Shroff and Sunitha Rao.'' ''The two wild cards for the qualifiers are Aishwarya Srivastava and local girl shivika Burman,'' he added.

Asked for an update on Sania Mirza's wrist injury, he said, ''She has not touched the ball ever since her return from the US Open. She is taking complete rest. She will arrive here on Sunday and wait till Monday before she takes a call.'' Anirban Das Blah of Globosports, the tournament promoters, said, ''Its not that Sania has decided to pull out. She is as eager as anyone else to play. So we will wait till the last moment.'' He also praised the talented Kyra Shroff who won turns 15 this October has a real; talent. ''The only other time that Globosports has allowed someone so young as wioldcard into the main draw was a little girl called Sania Mirza from Hyderabad. This shows how talented this girl is.'' She is a juvenile diabetic and has shown enormopus potential despite the illness. She turns 15 this October and have already won Wilson-TTT International Tennis Federation junior (under-18) tournament last year.

French Lass Marion Bartoli who is ranked 10 in the latest WTA rankings could be the top seed ahead of Slovak Daniela Hantuchova who is ranked 12th.

Meanwhile, the first casualty of the Open was recorded when Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand ranked 78 in the WTA rankings withdrew due to an injury and would be replaced by Hana Sromova of Czech Republic. She is ranked 115 in the world.
