Sania to miss Pacific Open
Hyderabad, Mar 2 (UNI) Tennis star Sania Mirza is likely to pull out of the Pacific Open tournament beginning at Indiana Wells, USA, on March 5 due to a swollen right knee, caused by a ligament problem.
Sania pulled out of Qatar Open on Wednesday after suffering a knee injury in her first round match against Italian Romina Oprandi on Monday, which she won 6-4, 6-3. She rushed to Hyderabad and consulted her doctors at Apollo Hospital.
She underwent an MRI scan today, which showed she had suffered a hyper-extension injury to her right knee. With further treatment needed to her right knee she is likely to miss the Pacific Open.
Apollo Hospitals MD and Chief Executive Officer K Hari Prasad in a bulletin said, ''Sania Mirza sustained a hyperextension injury to her right knee while playing. She was complaining of pain in the knee with swelling''.
MRI scan of the knee joint indicated a possible ACL injury. As the joint was painful, she would be examined under anaesthesia and then further course of action will be decided, Dr Prasad added.
