By MyKhel Staff

Top seed Senthil Kumar delivered a commanding performance in the ITF World Tennis Tour J300 event at the DLTA Complex, advancing to the second round with a straight-sets victory over Japan's Eito Komada. Senthil eased through the opening set.

However, he encountered resistance in the second before securing a 6-3, 6-4 win, delighting the home crowd. Meanwhile, Varun Verma pulled off an upset, defeating seventh seed Ilya Maltsev in a hard-fought match.

The Indian showcased resilience and high-quality tennis to clinch a 7-5, 7-5 victory on court six. Arnav Paparkar joined the list of surprise winners, overcoming Turkey's Kerem Yilmaz with a confident 6-1, 6-4 triumph, while Samrath Sahita also advanced by defeating Alan Aiukhanov with an identical scoreline.

In total, four Indian boys progressed to the second round, showcasing the country's promising talent. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for the home players. Rian Sharma fought valiantly but fell to Korean fourth seed Donghyun Hwang 5-7, 2-6.

Aarav Chawla and Shanker Heisnam also exited early, with Heisnam losing 1-6, 2-6 to eighth seed Roman Kharlamov and Aarav succumbing to Hyeon Seok Seo of Korea 2-6, 1-6. International players also made their mark, with American Roshan Sanhosh and Alexey Shibaev among those advancing to the second round.

In the girls' singles, India had limited success. Rishitha Reddy Basireddy dug deep to edge past Kazakhstan's Eva Korysheva 7-6 (4), 6-3, while Aishwarya Jadhav registered a fluent 6-2, 6-3 win over Daria Koreshkova. However, Riya Sachdeva, Aishi Bisht, and Mahika Khanna were unable to overcome their first-round challenges.

Day 1 of the tournament highlighted the intensity and unpredictability of junior tennis, with Indian players making their presence felt despite stiff competition from international talents. With 300 ranking points at stake, the ITF J300 event promises more thrilling action in the days to come.
