Doha: Serena defeats Venus in record-setting win

Doha, Nov 2: Serena Williams, who has already won Wimbledon and the Australian Open, along with grabbing the year-end No 1 ranking, added another victory to her year by defeating her big sister Venus Williams on Sunday, Nov 1 to cliche the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Serena who beat her sister 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the finals said, "I totally didn't expect to come here and win."

Serena who looked sharp throughout the match secured the victory and greeted her sister and the defending champion at the net with a hug.

Finishing the tournament undefeated, Serena bagged 1.55 million dollars to set yet another record with her total prize money won for the year which stands at 6.19 million dollars.

The previous record was set by Justine Henin who won 5.43 million dollars in 2007.
