Washington, Jul 21: To all those fans who were disappointed that Serena Williams may not be playing the US Open, the agent of the injured World Number One has indicated that her efforts to make it to the tournament are still on.
"Right now, we're taking it a day at a time. She's resting and recovering. She's a fast healer," Serena's agent Jill Smoller told an international news agency over the telephone.
"She will start training again as soon as she's healed," Smoller added.
The American ace sustained an injury to her right foot while she was in Munich earlier in Jul 2010. Last week, she had to undergo surgery to repair the deep cuts.
On Tuesday, Jul 20, Serena Williams tweeted "5th day in bed. arghhhh".
The injury came after Serena clinched her fourth Wimbledon singles title on Jul 3.
The tennis super star had pulled out of three tournaments, including the Jul 26 to Aug 1 event in Istanbul, Aug 9 to Aug 15 event in Mason, and Aug 16 to Aug 22 event in Montreal, she was expected to play in preparation of the US Open.
The US Open, which is the season's last major championship, will kick start on Aug 30 in New York.
