Serena 'satisfied' with revenge for 2004 Wimbledon title loss against Sharapova

London, June 29(ANI): American tennis star Serena Williams settled a six-year-old score against Maria Sharapova by beating her 7-6, 6-4 in the fourth-round match of Wimbledon.

In 2004, Serena was confident of completing a hat-trick of Wimbledon trophies, when she was defeated 6-1 6-4 by 17-year-old Sharapova in the final.

"It was definitely tense out there. She's so mentally focused that even on match point she was trying 200 per cent," the Daily Express quoted Serena, as saying.

"Our last meeting was a long time ago but of course there was satisfaction in beating her," she added.

Meanwhile, Sharapova, who had earlier insisted that the 2004 clash, which made her an overnight superstar, would have no bearing on Monday's outcome, said: "I thought I gave Serena a run for her money."

"I had my chances and if it wasn't for her great serving, I think I might have won, but nobody can beat her if she continues to serve like that," she added.

Williams will now play Na Li of China in the quarterfinal. ANI)
