Sinner breezes past Humbert to kick-start Monte-Carlo Masters title bid

Ugo Humbert was no match for Jannik Sinner, who began his title quest at the Monte-Carlo Masters in style.

Sinner, fresh from claiming the Sunshine Double last month, triumphed 6-3 6-0 on Tuesday.

The world number two wrapped up a 64-minute victory when Humbert sent a forehand straight into the net.

Sinner is targeting not only a third straight ATP Masters 1000 title, but also a return to the top of the rankings.

"It was a good performance from my side," Sinner said.

"You have to change your game style a little bit, how you approach certain situations.

"The first tournament [on clay] is never easy. I come here with good feelings but, at the same time, not many expectations."

Sinner - The master of the Masters

Sinner has now won a record-extending 36 consecutive sets at Masters 1000 level.

He has won 18 straight Masters 1000 matches, and has reached the third round at this tournament for the sixth time.

The Italian is the first player to win his first 13 ATP 1000 matches of a season since Roger Federer in 2017.
