Sliding roof might not be needed in this season's Wimbledon

London, June 22 (ANI): The oldest tennis tournament in the world, Wimbledon, begins today with an 80 million pound sliding roof on the Centre Court, but the weather predictions are so good that the exclusive accessory may not be needed at all.

The All England Club has spent nearly three years redeveloping the arena to prevent rain playing spoilsport in the spectacular event.

However, the Met Office on Sunday poured cold water on their hopes of unveiling the roof this year, by predicting little chance of rain in the next fortnight.Centre Court has the roof this year, but it doesn't look like it will be needed. The weather is expected to get very warm indeed," the Sun quoted Met Office spokesman Dean Snowden, as saying.

In fact, weather experts reckon sweltering temperatures of 280C and climbing may make it the hottest Wimbledon ever - beating even 1976, when it was 310C (880F) every day. (ANI)
