Somdev advances to second round of Vancouver Open

Vancouver, Jul 31 (UNI) Somdev Devvarman advanced into the second round of the 1,00,000 dollar Vancouver Open here as he overpowered Cecil Mamitt of Philippines.

Devvarman fought hard to dump Mamitt 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4) in the first round of the hard court event, setting up a second round clash against top seed Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei.

The Indian player, who had clinched his maiden ATP challenger tournament last week in Lexington, US, and had achieved career best ranking of 345, is all in-form to face a tough opponent in Lu, who is ranked 72 in the ATP charts.
