Somdev in quarters of SA Tennis Open

Johannesburg, Feb 2 (PTI) Somdev Devvarman progressed tothe singles quarter-finals of the ATP South Africa Tennis Openwith a straight sets win over giant killer Jesse Huta Galunghere today.

Galung had shocked third seed and world number 49 SerbJanko Tipsaveric in the opening round but the Indian scored aconvincing 6-3 6-4 win over the Dutch player in the secondround of the USD 442,500 event.

It was first meeting between 110-ranked Somdev andGalung, who is placed 10 places below the Indian on the ATPranking chart.

Somdev next faces South African Rik de Voest, who got thebetter of eighth seed Michal Przysiezny of Poland 6-3 6-4 inhis pre-quarterfinal clash.

Three seeded players, including top seed and world number33 Feliciano Lopez of Spain, were knocked out today fromthe ATP 250 tournament.

Lopez lost 7-6(5) 2-6 6-7(8) to Canada''s Frank Dancevic.
