Swiatek Credits Serena Williams For Smooth Advance To US Open Fourth Round

Iga Swiatek advances to the fourth round of the US Open in straight sets, crediting a motivational chat with Serena Williams. She outplayed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova without facing a break point, setting up a match against Liudmila Samsonova.

Iga Swiatek advanced to the fourth round of the US Open, attributing her straight-sets victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to a conversation with Serena Williams. The world number one triumphed 6-4, 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday, without facing a break point.

Swiatek took just 95 minutes to secure her spot in the next round, where she will face Liudmila Samsonova. A four-game winning streak in the second set solidified her third straight-sets win of the tournament so far.

Swiatek Moves to US Open Round Four

"It was nice that Serena [Williams] approached me [in the players' gym], because I wouldn't, for sure, find courage to do that," Swiatek said. "Even though we met before and for a couple of years we have been on the same sides and on tour together, she's still star-striking for me. It inspired me, and it gave me a positive kick."

Swiatek acknowledged that her game isn't perfect despite being number one and winning tournaments. "It's not like my tennis is perfect, but it is weird because I have been number one and winning tournaments, I feel I need to work on some stuff," she added.

Swiatek's victory at Flushing Meadows marks only the second time this year she has reached the fourth round at a grand slam. She previously failed to reach this stage at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon. This achievement is her 16th time reaching the fourth round in her 23rd main draw appearance.

Among active players, only Coco Gauff has also reached the fourth round in more than half of her main draws at grand slams. Swiatek's current form appears strong, as this win boosts her grand slam singles match winning percentage to 82.8% (82-17), placing her 11th on the all-time list in the Open Era, surpassing Martina Hingis.

Data Debrief: Total Dominance

The Pole's performance at Flushing Meadows continues to impress as she aims for another title after winning there in 2022. Her consistent play has been evident throughout this year's tournament.

This latest victory further cements Swiatek's status among tennis elites. Her ability to maintain such a high winning percentage showcases her dominance in women's singles matches at grand slam events.

Swiatek's journey through this year's US Open highlights her resilience and determination. As she progresses further into the tournament, fans eagerly anticipate how far she can go.
