Iga Swiatek Sets Sights On Hardcourt Success At Cincinnati Open

Iga Swiatek, after winning bronze at the Paris Olympics, returns to hardcourts at the Cincinnati Open. She aims to use it as a stepping stone for the US Open.

Iga Swiatek is gearing up for the Cincinnati Open, with her sights set on the US Open later this month. The top-seeded player, who recently won bronze at the Paris Olympics, is returning to hardcourt for the first time since March's Miami Open. Since then, she has claimed three clay titles in Madrid, Rome, and the French Open but faced a third-round exit at Wimbledon against Yulia Putintseva.

Swiatek acknowledges the challenges of transitioning back to hardcourt. "I know that the first tournament on hardcourts isn't going to be easy," she said. "So I'm going to try to treat it as a practice tournament, but not in a way that I don't care - more in a way that I want to implement all the stuff that I practiced on. I think it's the best approach for me now."

Swiatek Eyes Cincinnati Open Success

After her Olympic stint, where she aimed for gold but settled for bronze by defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, Swiatek is focused on refining her technique. "I felt after the Olympics I need to reset and also focus on getting my technique back together and just grinding on court," she explained. "Here's the perfect place to do it."

The Cincinnati Open serves as an essential stepping stone for Swiatek ahead of the US Open. She sees it as an opportunity to fine-tune her game before heading to New York. "It feels a little bit less crazy, but on the other hand, even before the tournament, there are many people and a lot of fans. So you still feel it's an important tournament," Swiatek noted.

Swiatek will face either Ajla Tomljanovic or Varvara Gracheva in her second-round match this week. Despite acknowledging the difficulty of transitioning surfaces, she remains optimistic about using this tournament as preparation for future challenges.

The US Open presents Swiatek with a chance to secure her second title in America and potentially increase her grand slam tally to six. The Lindner Family Tennis Center offers an ideal environment for Swiatek to build momentum toward this goal.

"Zostan z tym, ze chocnie spelnilam najwiekszego marzenia, to na dziszrobilam wszystko co moglam, zeby zagrac w #Paris2024 jak umialam najlepiej, na wlasnych warunkach. DziekujeWam za wsparcie i zrozumienie niezalenie od oczekiwan. Wrocena igrzyska mdrzejsza," tweeted Swiatek after her Olympic performance.

Swiatek's journey through these tournaments highlights her dedication and strategic planning as she aims for continued success on various surfaces.
