US Open 2023 will start in less than 48 hours from now. The defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will once again be stepping onto the court as a favorite to win the men's singles title. Let's have a look at his journey, this year, ahead of the US Open 2023.
After becoming the youngest World No.1 at year-end in 2022, Carlos Alcaraz's 2023 season did not begin as planned. He withdrew himself from Australian Open citing an injury to his right leg. What followed was a wonderful hard-court season for the 20-year-old rising tennis star, winning the Argentinian Open and reaching the finals of the Rio Open and the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open.

As the clay season started, people were expecting the shift of crown from one Spaniard to another. Well, while it was quite a big ask from the young man to replicate Rafael Nadal, the history repeated itself, nonetheless and Alcaraz once again withdrew himself from the first championship of the season (Monte Carlo Masters).
Carlos Alcaraz showed great gameplay on the clay court and his high energy translated into some glorious tennis as he successfully clinched the Madrid and Italian Open titles. It was all building up for the French Open. After defeating Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals, Carlos reached the semis and an Alcaraz-Djokovic match was on the platter.
'One of the greatest tennis players to have ever played the game' vs 'one of the most exciting young talents to have come up in the last few years', the hype was crazy. However, the match did not go as expected, the Serbian giant dominated Carlos and ended up winning the game in four easy sets.
Despite the setback, Carlos Alcaraz carried from where he left in the clay season with a maiden title in the grass-court season. It came in the very first tournament on grass (Queen's Club Championships). The Wimbledon approached and with that came the next chapter of the Carlos-Djokovic rivalry.
Carlos Alcaraz destroyed the former World No.1 Daniil Medvedev in three straight sets and played a match-winning forehand (one of the best shots of the tournament) to reach the finals of the Wimbledon. Alcaraz met Djokovic in the finals and the duo played the most captivating tennis, one could dream of in what was the best match of the year. Carlos won the finals in five closely-fought sets to win his second Grand Slam.
In another encounter of theirs, they played another thrilling game of tennis in the Cincinnati finals but the Serbian got better of Carlos, this time around. The hard-court US season has already been set up with a wonderful start at the Cincinnati, now all eyes are on the last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open 2023.
Will we see another Carlos-Djokovic game, in the coming US Open 2023? Well, it is definitely building up to that. It will be interesting to see who takes the crown this time or will we see someone new winning the championship?
