Novak Djokovic chases a record-equalling 24th grand slam when the second seed Serbian takes on third-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev in US Open 2023 men's singles final at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

23-time grand slam champion Djokovic eased past young American Ben Shelton in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(4) in the first semi-final that lasted for 2 hours and 41 minutes on Friday (September 8).

Earlier, Djokovic saw off USA's Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinal after beating Croatian qualifier Borna Gojo in the round of 16. In the round of 32, the Serb faced a tough challenge against his compatriot, coming from two sets down to win.

Djokovic, however, had straightforward wins to start the campaign, easing past Spain's Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Alexandre Muller in the opening two rounds in straight sets.

Medvedev, on the other hand, ousted the reigning champion and world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz in four sets 7-6(3), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in the second semi-final that went on for 3 hours and 19 minutes.

In the earlier rounds, Medvedev defeated compatriot Andrey Rublev, Australia's Alex de Minaur, Argentina's Sebastian Baez, another Aussie in Christopher O'Connell and Hungary's Attila Balazs.
